Off-duty police officers praised for 'tremendous bravery' after restraining 'violent' man in Lancaster

Two off-duty officers were sitting in traffic when they saw a man allegedly kicking and punching cars and vans in Borrowdale Road at around 5.45pm yesterday (November 4).

One of the officers proceeded to get out of the car to approach the man, but the perpetrator reportedly became violent and started fighting.

The second off-duty officer then got out of the vehicle to support their colleague and managed to restrain the man until uniformed officers arrived.

A 41-year-old man from Lancaster was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and obstructing a police officer. He is currently in custody for questioning.

Chief Insp Chris Hardy, of Lancashire Police, said: "Everyday our frontline officers and staff put themselves into dangerous situations in order to protect others.

"This was a fantastic response to a very concerning and threatening situation during which our officers showed tremendous bravery - well done to both."
