‘Despicable’ - that’s how Lancashire Police has described the theft of a poppy charity box in Morecambe.

The collection - put out to raise funds for the Royal British Legion to support British Armed Forces’ personnel past and present - was stolen from the Pier Hotel on Marine Road Central.

Police said it contained around £30 and was stolen from the bar.

It happened at around 6.30pm on October 27, although police only released the details today, November 7.

This morning, officers issued a CCTV image of a man they said they ‘needed to speak with’ about the theft.

PC John Bradshaw, of Lancashire Police, said: “This is a despicable offence and I would urge anyone who has any information about the identity of the man in the CCTV image to contact Lancashire Police on 101 quoting crime reference BB1304162.”

Alternatively, information can be passed to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
