A MAN will appear in court for sentence next month, after admitting a burglary in Lancaster during which the elderly householder suffered a heart attack and later died.

William Hartley, 23, of Stuart Avenue, Bare, will appear at Preston Crown Court on September 19.

The hearing follows an incident on February 15 when Hartley broke into a property on Wheatfield Court, Lancaster.

Householder Barbara Haynes was in bed at the time and suffered a heart attack. She died eight weeks later.

Neighbour Reg Leary said Mrs Haynes had lived on Wheatfield Court for “seven or eight years” and had a daughter living in Wirral.

He said: “She was a pleasant woman, a former nurse and chiropodist.
