British Transport Police officers, investigating an incident in which rail staff were verbally abused between Lancaster and Wigan, have cancelled the appeal for information.

As a direct result of the appeal, which was issued in relation to an incident that happened on New Years Day, a 31-year-old man from Lancaster handed himself in to police and was given a fixed penalty.

PC Gez Cooper said: “The man was extremely apologetic and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the media and the general public for their assistance.”
