A Leyland woman has been given a 12 week suspended jail sentence and 150 hours of community service after fraudulently claiming more than £12,200 in benefits.
Jordan Elizabeth Greensmith, 23, of Dunkirk Lane, pleaded guilty at Preston Magistrates’ Court to four offences after she failed to declare that she was living with her partner while claiming Income Support and Housing Benefit.
As a result of her actions, Greensmith received £8,577.30 Housing Benefit and £3690.24 Income Support that she was not entitled to. She will have to repay this money.
Coun Caroline Moon said: “This sentence should serve as a warning that we take our duty to protect taxpayer’s money very seriously.”
