Hoteliers are being urged to join a new crime fighting scheme that will help to make their premises safer.
A Hotel Watch scheme is being set up by the resort’s neighbourhood police team in order to keep local businesses better informed about security and safety issues that may affect their staff and guests.
Similar schemes are already in place in other parts of the county – members receive regular email alerts from local officers to make them aware of recent crimes and they are then offered advice to prevent further incidents from occurring at their own properties.
The system can also be used to inform hoteliers of missing people so that they can assist officers in their searches.
PCSO Karl Smith, of the West End Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Morecambe is a great place for people to come and visit and crime here is low.
“However, during the tourist season the population is more transient and criminals will often take advantage of this.
“The Hotel Watch scheme will allow police to work with local hotels, bed and breakfasts and guest houses to prevent and reduce crime in the Morecambe area.
“By sharing information we can quickly alert people to any preventative measures they may need to take to avoid falling victim to crime, and members can also pass on any suspicious activity they may see.”
