A man suffered serious injuries when two cars crashed close to a pub.

Police were called to Sir Tom Finney Way, Preston, at around 9am on Monday after reports a silver Honda Civic car and a silver Peugeot 207 collided outside the Sumners pub.

The accident caused the road to be closed from the Sainsbury’s store up to the Sumner’s pub, for three hours, with traffic diverted up Watling Street Road.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said one of the motorists had suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

Hours earlier, at around 8pm on Sunday, a man suffered suspected spinal injuries when a car hit a central reservation bollard on Watling Street Road, Fulwood.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene with paramedics had to cut off the top of the car.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the accident to call police on 101.
