Churches targeted by lead thieves

Lead thieves are targeting churches in the area.

Churches in Morecambe, Heysham and Bolton le Sands have all been targeted since the beginning of April and over £15,000 worth of lead has been stolen.

Officers believe that churches are being targeted and since April, six incidents have been reported to police.

Holy Trinity, St Martin’s, and St Christopher’s in Morecambe, Holy Trinity and St Mary’s of the Angels in Bolton-le-Sands and St Peter’s in Heysham are the churches that have had lead stolen.

Sergeant James Martin from Morecambe police said, “I would appeal to anyone who has any information about these offences to come forward and contact the police.

“I would also ask the public to be vigilant and if they see anyone acting suspiciously then to report the incidents to police.”
