A MAN who claimed he could barely walk was captured on film – working as a courier and a supermarket shelf-stacker.

Nigel Barnes, 48, and his wife Linda, 58, have each been handed two-year community orders, and ordered to complete 250 hours of unpaid work, after fraudulently claiming almost £30,000 in benefits.

The father, from Granville Road, Lancaster, was captured on film by Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) investigators, stacking shelves at Asda on Ovangle Road, and using his wife’s Motability vehicle for a second job as a parcel courier.

Mrs Barnes – who claimed she was single – fraudulently claimed £18,500 in income support.
