Burglar jailed after van thefts

A prolific burglar who stole more than £20k of property from caravans across the county has been jailed for four years.

Leslie Rawstron targeted caravan parks across Carnforth, Garstang and Longridge between July and October 2012.

He broke into both static caravans and houses close to the sites and stole over £20k of electrical items and jewellery.

Rawstron, 40, of Cherry Close, Blackburn, appeared at Preston Crown Court last Wednesday July 2, after pleading guilty to 21 counts of burglary.

PC Dave Bowler of Blackburn Target Team said: “This has been a long and complex investigation. Rawstron deliberately targeted empty caravans stealing personal and sentimental items from innocent and hard working people.

“The scale of the thefts he committed demonstrates the damage that just a single person can cause to our communities. That is why it is so important that people continue to contact us with information about crime.”
