Torrrisholme Cricket Club have secured £54,240 as part of Sport England‘s Inspired Facilities Fund to build three fully enclosed practice nets at their Boundary Meadow home on Barley Cop Lane in Morecambe.

It means that for the first time the club can run both a game on the square and a practice session at the same time with the club hoping the facility will be up and running for the 2015 season.

The bid was supported by the University of Cumbria, Lancaster and Morecambe College, the District Cricket Development Group, Lancaster Royal Grammar School, Lancashire Disabled CC and the Lancashire Cricket Board who all make use of the ground.

Heysham to M6 Link builders Costain have also supported the club as part of the bid to the tune of £2,500.

Chairman Mark Drinkall said: “It doubles the utility of the ground.

“Especially in the early part of the summer we get so many requests to use the ground and we’ve had to knock a lot of them back.

“About seven years ago we got a big chunk of money to sort our changing rooms but I’ve been here for 30 years and this is the most important development we’ve made.

“In terms of what it does for the club and the local cricketing community it’s massively important.

“I’d just like to say a big thanks to all those who supported the bid and the people who’ve been with the club for so many years.

“Without them we simply wouldn’t have been able to do something like this.”

Anyone interested in being involved in the club in any capacity can call Mark on 07738 252449.
