A LANCASTER woman who escaped with her life after her car was catapulted through a stone wall into a swollen river was amazed to be told by hospital staff that she was pregnant.

Kelly Fairbairn, 19, was rescued from her Volkswagen Beetle with just cuts and bruises by another motorist, William Johnson, after it had collided with another car on a bridge at Conder Green, and ended up on its roof in around three feet of water at around 12.55pm on Tuesday last week.

Kelly, of Monthall Rise, Ridge, was shocked to be told by Royal Lancaster Infirmary staff that she was carrying her first child – and relieved to learn that it too was unharmed.
