Couple mark 80th birthdays with fundraising day

Running enthusiasts Bernard and Evelyn Elkington both turn 80 this month and to mark the occasion they are hosting a party that requires trainers and t-shirts rather than high heels and party frocks!

The couple are holding a five mile run, 1.5 mile run and family fun day at Salt Ayre on July 31 from 10am until 2pm.

With prizes for runners, a medal for everyone and a piece of birthday cake at the finish line it’s set to be a great day out for all the family. There will also be face painters, glitter tattoos, a bouncy castle and much more to make it a birthday to remember for Bernard and Evelyn.

All proceeds from the day are going to disabled children’s charity, Unique Kidz and Co.

Ellen Smith, fundraising and events co-ordinator for Unique Kidz, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and dedication of Bernard and Evelyn in organising this event.

“Bringing the running community and local families together is a great way for Unique Kidz and Co to meet new people and introduce them to the services we offer.”
