County in line for top national awards

The nominations – including three in the Children’s Services category – are for the LGC Awards 2015, which recognise excellent services in local government.

A programme involving former members of the armed forces working as mentors in schools has been shortlisted in three different categories – Children’s Services, Community Involvement and Innovative Service Delivery Model.

The county council’s Ex-Service Personnel Mentoring Programme provides positive role models for the pupils which encourages them to attend more regularly and do better in lessons.

The council was also nominated in the Children’s Services category for a project which developed materials to help schools deliver the new national primary school curriculum. The materials, developed with head teachers and other staff, are now used by schools outside Lancashire.

The innovative #Lifesupsanddowns project, which promoted ways for young people to cope with issues affecting their mood, was also nominated in the Children’s Services category.

The council’s integrated commissioning team was shortlisted in a new category for developing a tenancy hours calculator for shared supported living for people with learning disabilities.
