CITY councillors were told this week how plans to share several services with Lancashire County Council were progressing.
The programme includes proposals to offer a 24-hour, 365-day telephone service to the public, as well as sharing highways maintenance and waste collection strategies and relocating the depot at White Lund to county-owned land at Middleton.
Lancashire County Council has joined together with BT to form a company called OneConnect Limited to undertake the work. It is believed this will achieve service improvements and efficiencies, as well as providing a wider range of expertise not currently available.
Councillors meeting on Tuesday expressed concerns over the transfer of ICT and telephony services from a local to countywide service, and asked for feedback from other councils which have undergone similar changes in partnership with BT.
