Clive Grunshaw calls for answers over ‘savage’ police cuts

Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw hit out at plans to slash £25m – on top of the £74m savings made since 2010 - and said he will demand answers from senior Government ministers over the “devastating” cuts.

The Government has reviewed the way it funds forces and Lancashire Police said it expects to come off worst when details are finalised.

The Home Office has asked for feedback on its proposals, which have not yet been made public.

Lancashire Police is bracing itself for cuts in the Treasury’s comprehensive spending review next month and the force is set to lose another 400 officers in the next five years.

Policing minister Mike Penning said: “The current model for allocating police funding, is complex, opaque and out of date. That is why we have consulted on principles for reform of funding arrangements for the police in England and Wales. ”
