In 2016 the Slyne Road hospice will celebrate its 30th anniversary by hosting a lifetime trip to walk part of the great wall in September.

For the trip 30 places have been booked, one for every year the hospice has been open.

Everyone who signs up will pledge to raise a set amount of money for St John’s, who are hoping to raise more than £50,000 in total.

Sue McGraw, chief executive of Lancaster St John’s, said: “I will be taking part, I see what people go through at the hospice on a daily basis and this challenge is tiny in comparison.

“This is the most unusual fundraising event the hospice has ever come across.

“After 30 years we thought we would do something really different.

“For 30 years our doors have never closed – day or night. We have provided hands-on nursing care for people facing the most challenging time of their lives.”

Trekkers can pay the money themselves or fundraise it all.

The fundraising team will be on hand to help keep people inspired and enthused to raise as much money as possible over the next 10 months.

Anyone who is interested in joining the trip, in conjunction with Skyline Events, is urged to come along to the hospice on Slyne Road on Thursday November 19 at 7pm.

The information evening will give more detail about the trip, and allow trekkers to speak to the tour company.

The hospice has said there is no obligation to join on the night.

Please call 01524 382538 to reserve your seat at the launch evening.
