Chance to see the Northern Lights in Lancashire

The Northern Lights (aurora borealis) may be visible across Lancashire on Wednesday as long as the skies remain clear according to the Met Office.

The last time we had a chance to see the Aurora Borealis was back in August.

The Met Office blog says: “Over the next few weeks the likelihood of seeing the aurora here on Earth is on the increase as two space weather phenomena coincide.

“The disturbance tonight is strong, the skies for many could be clear and so the chances of seeing the aurora are good for areas such as North Wales, Northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.”

The aurora’s peak activity over the UK is expected to be in early hours of Thursday before dawn.

The lights appear in many forms from patches or scattered clouds of light to streamers, arcs, rippling curtains or shooting rays that light up the sky with an eerie glow.
