THE cost of parking could rise as Lancaster City Council seeks to balance its budget for next year.
An increase from £1.20 to £1.30 for up to one hour’s parking is one of the price hikes mooted by the city council’s cabinet.
They could also raise the evening charge for up to one hour from £1.20 to £1.40.
Council leader Eileen Blamire said: “These are difficult times and the current condition of the economy has left us all with extremely tough choices in managing our budgets.
“If we didn’t raise charges in some areas then the knock-on effect is that we wouldn’t be able to continue to provide services at the same level as we currently do.”
