Calendar girl's bid to raise charity cash

A woman fighting breast cancer took part in a topless photoshoot for a calendar inspired by the famous Calendar Girls film to raise money for CancerCare.

Toni Riddick, 50, of Lancaster, is undergoing chemotherapy and is due to have a lump removed from her breast.

She has also been going to CancerCare in Lancaster.

Bored with not being able to work, Toni had always wanted to do a calendar after watching the famous film.

Along with family and friends, the women posed topless for pictures behind a hedge, or with their breasts hidden.

Toni said: “It was really quite liberating!”

The 2019 calendar will be available soon through social media, or from The Middle Holly tearoom at Forton.

Toni said: “I was looking on social media and found someone called Billy Akrigg , who I thought must be related to me.

“He turned out to be my dad’s cousin’s son, Billy Akrigg.

“I hadn’t seen him in 15 years. When he found out I had cancer he wanted to do a challenge at his gym, BA Fitness at Trimpell. If you do the challenge which is £5 per person, Billy will match it.

“I’m also planning on holding a prosecco and gin event on October 13 to raise money for CancerCare.”

Toni has also set up a justgiving page to raise £2000 so she can have the BRCA Mutation test to see if she carries the breast cancer gene.

Toni said: “If the test comes back positive there’s a high risk that my daughter will have inherited it and be prone to getting breast cancer later on in life. It could also cause complications when she decides to start a family as the gene is passed on.

“Anything raised over £1500 will go towards CancerCare.”
