TOURISM in the Morecambe Bay area has received a boost after both a boutique hotel and a tourist information hub struck gold at the national Enjoy England Awards for Excellence.

Number 43 at The Promenade, Arnside, won the gold bed & breakfast/guest accommodation Award, while the Morecambe Visitor Information Centre, (VIC) based at The Platform, won a gold award for tourist information service.

Elsewhere, Woodclose Park in Kirkby Lonsdale, which offers caravans, motor homes, wigwams, holiday homes and lodges, as well as camping, won gold in the caravan holiday park category.

Enjoy England, the national tourist board, has been running the prestigious awards celebrating the best the country has to offer for 22 years.

Number 43, which opened three years ago, won its place in the final through the Cumbria Tourism awards.

It offers six luxury en-suite rooms plus stunning views across the bay.

Owner Lesley Hornsby said: “It goes without saying we are delighted. It’s a phenomenal achievement to get Best in Cumbria and Best in the North West last year and then this and it’s down to hard work and teamwork.”
