A Lancaster pub firm has become a wine training centre.

Mitchell’s is now a satellite training and examination centre for the globally renowned Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET).

Staff are selected for the formal wine education, based on enthusiasm and natural aptitude shown for the subject during internal wine training.

This year, all six candidates who entered passed the prestigious Level One Foundation in Wines.

The qualification focuses on taste, quality, storage, service, and food matching.

Successful candidates move on to become ‘wine champions’ within Mitchell’s estate.

Managing director, Jonathan Barker said “We recognise the need for product knowledge training, in what can be seen as an overwhelming subject.”
