New evening chef has all the right ingredients

A new Lancaster Italian restaurant has employed an experienced chef to launch its new “Osteria” evening dining menu.

Dario Castillo has been working at Buccelli’s in Church Street for a few weeks now.

He was appointed by the owner, Bruno Buccelli, to work in the evenings, offering the Osteria experience to city diners.

Osteria is a unique piece of Italian history and heritage, with all dishes served in this traditional way to shared tables encouraging the diners to share the food, wine and other drinks.

Dario, 60, originally from Argentina, has previously worked at the Silverdale Hotel.

He grew up with an Italian nanny from Piedmont in northern Italy, and has lived and worked in the UK on and off since 1979, working in Manchester and the Basque Country where he trained as a chef. He also worked at the Italian restaurant Il Boscaiolo in Marble Arch, London in the 1980s.

From 2010 to 2015, Dario was a partner and head chef at Oaxaca Cozinha Mexicana, in Brazil, and returned to the UK in 2015. A friend to Bruno for some time, Dario has a wealth of experience in Italian cuisine, ingredients and the Italian culture and traditions.
