Lancaster Wine Company staff raised their glasses after scooping the ‘newcomer’ category at the 2014 Drinks Retailing Awards.
Owners Barry and Fiona Howarth said they were “absolutely delighted” with the accolade given to their Greaves Road business.
Mrs Howarth added: “These are well respected industry national awards covering the whole country and that is why we are so proud, highly delighted and surprised to win.”
The awards, organised by Off Licence News, were held at London’s Dorchester Hotel.
There were 21 categories altogether, with other winners including leading names such as Selfridges, Waitrose and Tesco.
Judges said: “Lancaster Wine Company is almost the complete package – a newcomer that feels like it’s been there for years.
“Barry and Fiona Howarth have taken years of experience from working in off-licence chains and local independents to hone their own vision of just what a specialist drinks store should be and the results are wonderful.”
Mr Howarth was presented with the honour by comedian Miles Jupp and category sponsor Stefan Schikker, of Coppens and GGS Beverages last Tuesday.
