A Morecambe man who left home aged 17 to launch himself into the world of business has returned to set up a new marketing agency.
David Bell, 52, who grew up on the Branksome Estate, said he had just realised one of his childhood dreams by buying a home on Broadway when he moved back seven months ago.
David, who attended Our Ladies Catholic College, said he moved to Preston to launch his career and chase business opportunities that were lacking in his hometown.
The former professional boxer has worked for a number of high profile fashion companies, qualified as a plumber and a teacher, and took a Degree in Marketing aged 35.
The dad of 16-month-old Sophia, whose partner Marta works at Lancaster University, said: “I can’t get used to the slower pace of life sometimes, but I love the place. It’s fabulous.”
David has also worked as interior show room manager for Norweb, and used shares to set up his Manchester-based business B&M Property Maintenance.
The experienced marketing executive is also currently writing a research paper on re-shoring – where big companies are encouraged to relocate their overseas operations back onto British soil.
Back in Morecambe, he has just launched his new company, Transparency Marketing.
He said: “I believe the key to successful business in this internet-led world is to be transparent.
“If you’re not transparent it will come back to you in the end. Most people don’t seem to realise how the global market has changed around them, and the opportunities this has produced, so I’m looking forward to working with local companies on their marketing materials.”
