PLANS are set to be unveiled next month that could see a Lancaster pub turned into retirement homes.

McCarthy & Stone Retirement Lifestyles Ltd are to hold a public exhibition to display early proposals for the redevelopment of the Greaves Hotel in Greaves Road.

The scheme would provide “Extra Care” accommodation for the elderly, which combines independent living with the level of care that residents need during the remainder of their lives.

Jonathan Barker, one of the managing directors of Mitchell’s, who own the Greaves Hotel, said the proposals were “testing the water” for a possible future use for the site.

The building has been a pub since the early 1900s, but is no longer ‘fit for purpose’, he said.

“We have been in discussions with McCarthy & Stone for a number of months about the site,” Mr Barker said.
