Bus driver zips in for 100mph fundraiser

driver who now works in the city’s bus station tackled a one mile long zip wire to raise money for St John’s Hospice.

Ann O’Halloran, 64, who took on the challenge earlier this month in North Wales, hit speeds of 80-100mph.

She said the experience was “very scary” but the nerves were worth it.

Ann is a travel shop clerk at Lancaster Bus Station, and first started working 
in the bus industry in 1989 for Ribble as a female bus driver.

As the third generation in her family to drive a bus, she gave up driving two years ago.

She says her biggest highlight was driving athletes in the 2012 London Olympics.

Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire has said it will double money raised 
by employees’ for the fundraiser.

Ann said: “It was very scary building up to the zip wire but the nerves where worth it.

“I’m incredibly happy that it went well and that my colleagues and Stagecoach have been as generous in giving to a very worthy cause.”

Ann has been a supporter of the charity for many years. She was first motivation by her husband to take part in the zip wire challenge and after two false starts, the weather finally allowed the challenge to go ahead on June 16.
