Mr Temkin said: “The allegation is that the defendant took advantage of the complainant’s young age and entered into a sexual relationship with her.

“The abuse lasted nearly two years. The complainant was a willing participant, believing that she loved him, but because of her young age she could not consent.

“The prosecution argue that sexual activity took place in various locations including the defendant’s flat above a grocery shop in Padiham Road, Burnley, at a stables in Burnley, on the defendant’s milk float and in a hotel near to Ski Rossendale.

“The complainant accepts she was completely smitten with the defendant and that they talked about running off to Puerto Rico when she was 16.”

The trial continues.
