A fundraising schoolgirl on a Land’s End to John O’ Groats ride showed her metal by getting back on her bike after she was involved in an accident in Caton.
Badly-bruised Auriol Drummond-Hay, 16, was determined to complete the long-distance route for Marie Curie Cancer Care despite being hit by a car near Boots on Hornby Road.
Workers from the pharmacy called an ambulance for the Kirkby Lonsdale youngster, who was on day seven of the two-week cycle challenge last Friday.
Her damaged bike was quickly repaired and the plucky teen was soon on her way again.
“It was really scary to get back on my bike and I went slowly for the first few days,” said Auriol, a Sedbergh School pupil who has raised £2,000 so far. “My grandmother received lots of care from Marie Curie before she died so I am determined to finish for her.”
Auriol’s father Simon, 46, who rode with her on certain stretches, said: “I’m immensely proud of her.” Visit www.justgiving.com/aurioldrummond-hay to donate.
