A £10m funding bid to repair four kilometres of Morecambe promenade sea wall has been approved – in part.

Lancaster City Council has been given £2m by the Environment Agency to start work on the wave reflection wall from Happy Mount Park to Lord Street but is still waiting for the green light on the rest of the money to continue from the Midland Hotel to Sandylands promenade.

The council cabinet will meet on March 11 to decide whether to formally accept the grant offer. The scheme is one of 970 nationwide to be given Government money.

Lancaster City Council hopes to start the work within the next year and continue a programme of renewal over six years. The wall has taken a battering in the storms of the past two months.
