The North West Air Ambulance Charity is appealing for ‘heli heroes’ during National Air Ambulance Week with the support of Furness Building Society.
National Air Ambulance Week runs from September 23-29 with the aim of promoting the life saving work of air ambulances across the country.
During this week, the North West Air Ambulance Charity will be calling for people across the region to do something heroic during the week to raise awareness for its own heroes in the sky, which provide a service to the 8 million people of the north west, 365 days a year.
Relying only on charitable donations, the North West Air Ambulance Charity flies doctors and paramedics to patients in the vital seconds after an accident in locations, which land ambulances, simply cannot reach.
It costs in the region of £4.3m annually to keep their two helicopters in the air, which is solely funded by the generosity of the public.
Furness Building Society is helping to recruit ‘heli heroes’ by offering a model helicopter to anyone who opens a charity savings account during the awareness week.
The NWAA savings account works on the basis of ‘You Save – They Give.’
Anyone who opens an account is guaranteeing an annual payment to the charity, which comes directly from Furness Building Society and not from the account holder’s savings or interest.
Ian Quayle, partnerships and affinities manager for FBS, said: “We are so proud to support the North West Air Ambulance Charity as the work it does for people of all ages is amazing.”
Jenny Haskey, head of fundraising at the North West Air Ambulance Charity, said: “National Air Ambulance Week provides a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of the hard work of both the charity and our supporters, which goes on not only during the awareness week, but all year round.
“Last year we received more than £118,000 from Furness Building Society through the savings accounts, which we think is absolutely fantastic. We greatly appreciate their support.”
