Four friends who completed two Tough Mudders on the same day have been handed an award for their efforts.
Lancaster University lecturer Dr Stephen Weatherhead joined his friends to combat a 12-mile obstacle course through bogs, muds and woodland in Skipton.
The awesome foursome including David Todd, Jonny Rust and John-Paul Riley raised more than £1,000 for the Encephalitis Society.
The society gave its Challenge Fundraiser Award to the team of psychologists at an awards ceremony in London.
Stephen also honoured a pledge to paint himself orange if sponsorship reached £600.
He said: “It’s lovely to be given this award but we must remember that the heroes here are the people who live with the impact of encephalitis, and the wonderful Encephalitis Society who are there day in and day out to help them.”
They were inspired to support The Encephalitis Society after Stephen, David and Jonny, all clinical psychologists specialising in neurological conditions, were moved to support its work after meeting Dr Ava Easton, the charity’s chief executive.
Dr Easton said: “We really want to thank all four men for putting their bodies on the line and running not one – but two – Tough Mudders!
“The money they have raised will now go towards providing support for people who have been affected by Encephalitis and to providing research into the condition.”
