Ashton Memorial gallery re-opens
‘Nature Returning’ by local artists Fay Collins and Debbie Yare will run between April 27 and June 22 (10am until 5pm) and feature paintings, drawings, prints and photographs inspired by nature returning to post-industrial landscapes.
The artists have been particularly drawn to local landscapes in North Lancashire and South Cumbria that have been quarried and include Trowbarrow Nature Reserve (Silverdale), Hodge Close (Coniston) and Williamson Park itself where footpaths weave through the rocky remains from the old quarry that once provided stone for Lancaster’s buildings.

Hide AdFay and Debbie are practicing professional artists based in Lancaster who have been exhibiting in both public and commercial galleries in the area for the last few years. The ‘Nature Returning’ exhibition is the result of numerous explorations and observations of these fascinating altered landscapes.
Debbie Yare said: “One can experience a real sense of industrial history, juxtaposed with the new life taking root between the rocks and nesting in cliffs. The haunting atmosphere of these landscapes combined with often subtle and unexpected beauty makes great inspiration for creativity.”
You can meet the artists who will be at the gallery at Ashton Memorial every Monday throughout the duration of the exhibition. Prints and unframed originals will be also available for purchase.
The gallery may be closed on Saturdays due to private events, please check in advance.
