Arts groups fight for their future

THREE more city arts organisations are fighting for their future in the wake of Arts Council England’s £100m in funding cuts.

Ludus Dance admitted last week its future was at risk after a 70 per cent funding cut, but Litfest, the Storey Gallery and Folly, which also currently receive Arts Council cash, have been told they will receive no money at all from April 2012.

The Arts Council provided more than two-thirds of funding for Litfest, which is based at the Storey Creative Industries Centre and runs literary events and writing workshops and an annual festival in October.

It received £70,171 from the Arts Council in 2010/11, but that will fall to £65,330 for the current financial year before ending next April. Litfest also receives almost £28,000 from Lancashire County Council and Lancaster City Council.
