Arrests following drugs raids in seaside town

Sixteen people were arrested following a series of drugs raids in which heroin with a street value of £600,000 was seized.

A man and a woman were arrested in Morecambe and Preston by Lancashire Constabulary in co-ordinated raids with Brighton-based officers, in which £50,000 cash was seized, along with six kilos of heroin mixed with cutting agent.

The man and woman arrested in Lancashire are linked to an address on Commercial Road, Liverpool.

They are currently in custody in Brighton for intervbview and further enquiries. Police searched nine addresses in Brighton, one in Eastbourne and one in Liverpool.

During the searches last Tuesday, three safes were also found.

Lea Smith, 44, Natal Rd, Brighton; Kingsley Walls 42, Langley Crescent, Brighton; Lee Mack, 48, Sheepcote Valley Caravan Park, Brighton; Ronnie Edwards 48, Chiddingly Close, Brighton; Sean Davidson 47,Downhill View, Brighton; and Arthur Jones 53, Downs Avenue, Eastbourne; were remanded in custody to appear at Lewes Crown Court on April 17.

Julie Coltard, 41, Langley Crescent, Brighton, was released on court bail to appear on the same date as the other six.

A 40-year-old man, a 43-year-old man, two other men, aged 29 and 62, and two other women, aged 62 and 28, arrested on suspicion of conspiracy in Brighton, have been interviewed and released on police bail until May 13.

India Williams, 23, of Langridge Drive, Portslade, has been charged with obstructing police and is due to appear on bail at Brighton Magistrates Court on April 9.

Detective Inspector Julie Wakeford of Sussex Police said: “This is part of our work aimed at disrupting the supply of drugs in Sussex.”
