Appeal to help Lancaster's brave cat Tommy

Maddison with Tommy her cat who crawled home using his front paws after being badly injured in what his owners believe to be a car crash.

Tommy, a nine-month-old house cat went missing from the caravan site where his owner was staying temporarily near Animal Care in Lancaster.

He found his way home to his owner over several days after it was thought he had been hit by a car, pulling himself using just his front legs.

Owner Helen Cleece, 30, from Lancaster, said: “He just disappeared over a week ago and my little girl Maddison, aged six, and everyone were looking for him. He must have been injured the day after he went missing and it took him a week to crawl home.

Tommy's x-ray shows the extent of his injuries. This leg will probably have to be amputated.

We took him to the vets and they are doing everything they can but he will need a possible amputation on one leg and the other pinned. At the moment he is on painkillers but the operation could cost up to £4000. The vet said it would be cheaper to put him down but surely something can be down as he has a good life ahead of him. My insurance does not cover the cause of his injuries. so I have started a crowdfunding initiative which so far has raised £355.I just want to save Tommy.”

Tommy’s owner said he was due to be operated on on Wednesday afternoon but is still appealing for funds.
