The lifeboat volunteers were stood down before launching as the casualty was reported safe on the shore.

The air ambulance was also stood down and the surfer was taken to hospital be ambulance.

It is believed the wind surfer had been out on the water taking advantage of the windy conditions and landed in a bad position, causing a suspected broken leg.

Steve Wilson, Lifeboat Operations Manager, said “Our volunteer crew members continue to show resilience during the current policies in place.

"There was a great turnout from our crew members. Fortunately, our services were not needed on this occasion.

"However, we would like to remind the public that if you’re heading near the coast #BeBeachSafe. In an emergency call 999 and ask for the coastguard.”

On Sunday evening the emergency services were also called out to three people who appeared to be stuck in the sands at Half Moon Bay.

Morecambe lifeboat launched the hovercraft while the coastguard team walked out across the sands.

Having assessed the situation with the hovercraft it was found to be a false alarm with good intent.
