A young woman from Hornby is holding a fundraising event in Lancaster next week to help an orphanage in Malawi.

Eller Everett, 21, volunteered at Open Arms Orphanage in January after learning about it through her former school, Queen Elizabeth in Kirkby Lonsdale.

The orphanage houses nearly 120 children from as young as 12 hours old as well as helping provide basic nursery education and meals for more than 300 vulnerable children in outlying feeding stations.

Eller hopes her event will provide further support for the organisation.

She is holding an African night at Lancaster Brewery from 8pm on Friday, August 22.

The night includes music from two local bands as well as an auction and raffle.

Entry is by donation and all funds raised will go to Open Arms Malawi.
