Staff at the Lancaster offices of CLB Coopers and Handelsbanken are organising a special festive fundraiser for local charity Unique Kidz and Co involving a pantomime fancy dress event.

The event takes place in the city centre on Friday, December 20(Black Eye Friday) and the organisers are urging other city centre businesses to join in the fun.

All those taking part pay £2 to dress up as pantomime dames, horses or other favourite pantomime characters to raise funds for both Unique Kidz and Co and Alexandra House in Lancaster.

There will be also collection boxes across the city centre’s offices and shops and street collections.

So far, staff from six more Lancaster businesses have joined the fun including staff

from Barclays and HSBC, so that’s over 100 pantomime characters.

Elspeth Rainford, PA to the Partners at CLB Coopers in Lancaster is co-ordinating

the fundraiser.

She said: “We did a similar fundraiser last Christmas and raised over £2,500 for our chosen charity.

“It was so successful and so much fun that we decided to do it again.

“We heard about Unique Kidz and Co through our colleagues at HSBC and we really wanted to help the charity to raise the £75,000 it needs for its ‘Kit it out for the Kidz’ campaign. “Barclays have offered match funding for some of what we raise so we’re hoping to raise even more this year.”

The fun starts at 8.30am at The Sun Inn to enjoy bacon butties and compare fancy

At 12pm it’s carol singing in the Market Square followed by fancy dress judging in The Borough at 12.30pm with free turkey sandwiches for those taking part.

Finally the fun finishes with a celebration drink at 5pm in The Sun Inn.

Denise Armer, Co-Founder of Unique Kidz and Co said: “What a fun way to start the Christmas festivities.

“We are very grateful to the organisers for choosing to support our charity with this great fundraiser and I know some of our own staff are very keen to join in the fun!

“Our ‘Kit it out for the Kidz’ campaign is raising funds to kit out our new centre for disabled children with the essentials it needs to open in April next year.

“Our list includes mobile hoists, changing tables, children’s chairs and tables, cupboards, a cooker, a fridge and indoor and outdoor play equipment.”
