Academic denies trying to kill child
A university manager accused of trying to murder a six-year-old child is set to stand trial in July.
Leading academic Kerry Fenton, 43, appeared at Preston Crown Court on Tuesday to face charges of attempted murder after allegedly trying to suffocate the little boy in July of last year.
She is also accused of trying to strangle him in February.
Dressed in a grey sweater and teal trousers, Fenton, of St Michael’s Road, Kirkham, spoke only to confirm her name and enter pleas of not guilty to both charges.

Hide AdFenton, who heads up the postgraduate department at Lancaster University, has been suspended from her role and is currently on remand at HMP Styal.
Recorder of Preston Judge Anthony Russell QC remanded Fenton in custody and set a date for the trial to take place on July 2 at Preston Crown Court. (proceeding)
