£6m windfall gets youths in the Zone

PLANS have been announced for a new Youth Zone thanks to a £6m funding injection.

The new Youth Zone in Lancaster will be open for a minimum of five nights a week and offer a wide range of activities and opportunities for young people to get together in a safe and fun environment.

The Youth Zone will feature a multi-purpose hall, internet cafe, kitchen, hall, space for group work and private sessions, studio and performance workshop areas for arts, music and drama as well as an outdoor multi-use games area.

Work is currently under way to determine whether an existing facility could be converted to become a Youth Zone, or whether it will have to be built from scratch.

It is hoped that it will be up and running by 2014.
