Over the years, the Red Rose county has seen a whole host of inventions, and some have become everyday items, phrases or ways of life - without us even realising their history.
So take a look at the pages below, and be prepared to be amazed.

13. BAE Systems
BAE Systems has its origins in multiple sites across Lancashire, including the Warton Aerodrome, which began as a satellite airfield in 1939, and the Samlesbury Aerodrome, originally planned as a municipal airport in 1922. The company's history in the area evolved through the ownership of companies like English Electric, British Aircraft Corporation (BAC), and British Aerospace before becoming BAE Systems in 1999. | Khaled DESOUKI / AFP via Getty Images

14. Motorways
The Preston Bypass was Britain's first motorway and is now part of the M6. Opened in 1958 by Prime Minister Harold Macmillan, the 8.25-mile bypass was designed to ease traffic congestion through Preston. There were no speed limits and no crash barriers. A section of the M55 now connects to this original bypass. | Getty Images

15. Interactive whiteboards
The modern interactive whiteboard was commercialized and developed in Blackburn. The technology firm Promethean, founded by Tony Cann in Blackburn in 1996, was a key pioneer in developing and selling the interactive whiteboards (or "smartboards") that are now common in classrooms and offices worldwide. | Gary Kelman Photo: Gary Kelman
