Take your partners for a waltz

The Promenade Concert Orchestra will be beginning its eighth season with a programme of dance and ballet music this Sunday (November 16).

Tchaikovsky’s waltzes from the Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty ballets, Gounod’s Faust ballet music and Ballet Egyptian by Luigini are some of the famous ballet works being performed.

Also on the programme are 90-year-old, Lancashire-born Ernest Tomlinson’s great Cinderella waltz, Eric Coates’ amazing Dancing Nights concert waltz and Sullivan’s sunny Di Ballo overture, full of super dance rhythms.

Conducting the concert which starts at 3pm will be musical director and founder, Howard Rogerson, winner of The Visitor’s 2014 Sunshine Culture Award.
