AN INCREDIBLE account of heroism and survival against the odds is the subject of a new exhibition opening at Lancaster Maritime Museum on 5th February.

On tour from the Royal Geographical Society, London, ‘Antarctic Witness’ captures the dramatic events of the expedition to Antarctica led by Sir Ernest Shackleton in 1914, as seen through the eyes of Frank Hurley, official photographer to the expedition.

Their ship, Endurance, became trapped in pack ice and was later crushed, leaving the crew stranded on the ice for over 18 months.
