Sense and memory come together for exhibition

The intriguing work, created though tactile art workshops led by the Lancaster students, is going on wider display in Morecambe in a week long exhibition.

‘Sense and Memory’ opens at Morecambe Library on Friday, March 14 with a special afternoon event.

The work of the charity’s members will then remain on display at the venue until Friday, March 20, for members of the public to enjoy.

Entrance to the exhibition is free but all proceeds and donations will go to the Morecambe-based charity, which is transforming the town’s former newspaper offices to create a new centre for its services.

Art students taking Lancaster University’s Creative Enterprise module have worked closely with the charity’s blind and partially sighted members in a series of workshops.

The result is a wide variety of artworks using malleable materials, such as clay and mixed media, that the organisers hope will give people an insight into what it’s like to be blind or partially sighted.

The opening afternoon of ‘Sense and Memory’ will take place on Saturday, March 14 from 1pm until 3.30pm. Last year Galloway’s Society for the Blind bought the former headquarters of The Visitor and the Lancaster Guardian newspapers and plans to develop its new centre in the resort.
