Ruby’s a shining star

One of TV’s best-known psychics, a top soul and gospel singer and a throwback to the big band era are on the bill at the Lancaster Grand this week.

Derek Acorah brings The Psychic Ether Tour 2015 to the city venue on Thursday from 7.30pm.

A celebrity, author and performer, Derek is one of the foremost names in the world of Psychic Phenomena, known for his appearances on Most Haunted.

Ruby, who performed ‘You Are So Beautiful’ with Jools Holland at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert outside Buckingham Palace in London in 2012, is best known for her appearances on Jools’ annual TV Hootenanny show.

In autumn 2012 Ruby was a guest judge on BBC ‘The Choir: Sing While You Work with choirmaster Gareth Malone’ and in 2013 was a guest judge on BBC Songs of Praise gospel choirs competition.

To date, Ruby has released 17 albums plus the BBC’s ‘Live From Glastonbury’, as well as appearing on releases by the likes of Brian Ferry, UB40, Steve Winwood and Mick Jagger.

Sunday night’s show is ‘The Sound of the Glenn Miller Era’.

This concert recaptures the sounds of a bygone era as the Nick Ross Orchestra presents the classic big band sound of the 1940s from 7.30pm.
