Prince William and Kate link to Lancaster fairytale show

The head gear worn by Prince Andrew’s daughter on the day Kate Middleton bagged her own Prince Charming has inspired the creation worn by Josie Cerise, who plays Grizelda in ‘Cinderella’ at The Dukes.

And a hat covered with butterflies, which the princess once wore, also influenced the headgear donned by Charlotte McKinney who plays Greta.

The hats were made by Meg Roberts while taking a break from working on The Book Of Mormon in London’s West End.

Meg is a member of a wardrobe team of five at The Dukes who started creating the Cinderella costumes in November from Alison Heffernan’s designs.

The theatre’s wardrobe department is run by Meg’s mum, Ann Preston, who has also worked on The Book of Mormon this year.

Josie and Charlotte’s outrageous costumes have helped Cinderella’s step sisters become two of the most popular characters in this year’s Christmas show at The Dukes.

Josie, who grew up in Lancashire and appears in Grandpa in my Pocket on Cbeebies, is a particular favourite thanks to her crazy singing and dancing.

But Charlotte gives her a good run for her money in her first stage role following the birth of her son. She was last seen as a pirate in The Dukes version of Treasure Island in 2012.

Both play Cinderella’s horrible stepsisters as Essex girls and their dance routines, including one where they are joined by wicked stepmother Clarissa, played by Kate Copeland, have been a highlight of the show.

They were choreographed by Helen Gould who has worked for Lancaster-based Ludus Dance Company and is director of La Petite Mort Theatre. She’s also regional dance artist for English National Ballet.
