Pupils who left Ripley St Thomas High School in 1985 celebrated the 30th anniversary at a recent reunion held at the Vale of Lune Rugby Club.

Organised by Liz Brook and Jan Marshall, the evening brought together some 80 former pupils from all over the country, with messages of support from many more who were unable to attend.

They were joined by a number of their former teachers, and David Bateman, former deputy headteacher, acted as MC and questionmaster for a light-hearted quiz.

The raffle was generously supported with more than 30 prizes donated by members and local businesses, including a print by former pupil Chas Jacobs, whose wife Jackie is a member of the Class of ‘85.

As a result of the raffle, former pupil Claire Feeney-Johnson, a past mayor of Kendal was delighted to receive a cheque for £550 on behalf of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, for which she now works as a volunteer.

The charity was chosen out of respect for Class of ‘85 member Greg Lee, who is affected by the disease.

The evening continued with a disco, and, with many old friendships renewed, there was plenty of enthusiasm for further reunions in the not-too-distant future.
