New twist on belle of ball

The writer of a modern version of Cinderella hopes he’s penned a version his daughters would be proud of.

Father-of-two Ian Kershaw has created a new take on the classic fairytale, which begins its Christmas run at The Dukes this weekend.

Performed in The Round at the Lancaster theatre, the show tells the story of gutsy teenager, Ella, whose family have hit hard times and whose sisters – recently relocated from Essex – are making her life a misery.

As Ella (played by Rachael Garnett) begins to dream of a better world, news hits of a party at the palace.
