A £1.3m development of new shared ownership properties aimed at people looking to get on the housing ladder is being built in Hornby.

The 10 homes, which are being constructed by Mansell Partnership Housing for Beech Housing Association, are located at Strands Farm on the edge of the village.

The homes are a mixture of two and three-bedroom terraced and semi-detached houses and are available to buy from Beech on a part rent, part buy basis.

Nicola Johnson, property sales co-ordinator for Beech Housing Association, said: ‘This is a very attractive scheme in one of the most picturesque villages in Lancashire. Subject to valuation, purchasers can buy a 50 per cent share in one of these shared ownership properties from as little as £77,500.

“Rent is calculated on the unsold equity and a 50 per cent share on a two bed property would be £177.60. This makes the properties very affordable starter homes bearing in mind the cost of home ownership in the village.”

The homes are due to be completed in October 2013. Initial priority will be given to buyers with a connection to Hornby. Subject to demand, applications will then be accepted from purchasers in the surrounding rural villages.

Applications will be accepted from the Lancaster area more generally should there then still be properties available.
